Former federal prosecutor Will Rosenzweig sues Justice Department over alleged political firing

Will Rosenzweig, a former assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of Florida, filed a lawsuit in Miami federal court alleging that the Justice Department illegally terminated his employment in September 2025. The firing came three hours after right‑wing influencer Natalie Winters posted a screenshot of Rosenzweig’s LinkedIn profile and highlighted an old blog that contained critical remarks about President Donald Trump. At the time, Rosenzweig was two weeks from trying a multimillion‑dollar Medicare fraud case. The complaint, signed by former Attorney General Pam Bondi, seeks reinstatement, back pay and a declaration that the dismissal violated his First Amendment rights. It argues that the Department’s action "rests on a single premise: a citizen must forever refrain from criticizing the government and its leaders to remain eligible to serve it." The lawsuit is part of a broader pattern of DOJ personnel purges targeting prosecutors perceived as disloyal to the administration.
