Former FIDEIMSS director wounded in Mexico City shooting
Debora Sáenz Saldívar, the former director of the Fideicomiso para el Desarrollo del Deporte del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (FIDEIMSS), was wounded during an armed attack in the Álvaro Obregón borough of Mexico City.
The incident occurred on Calzada de Las Águilas in the Las Haciendas neighborhood. Assailants traveling on a motorcycle opened fire on the vehicle carrying Sáenz Saldívar and her companions. The attack resulted in the death of 38-year-old José Francisco Romero Saldívar and left another woman injured. Authorities noted that Romero Saldívar had previously been detained for robbery and was released from the Reclusorio Preventivo Varonil Sur on September 20, 2025.
The Mexico City Secretary of Security (SSC) confirmed that the two injured women were transported to a hospital for medical attention. Investigators are currently reviewing C5 surveillance camera footage to identify the suspects, who may have been posing as delivery drivers. It remains unclear whether the attack was specifically targeted at the former FIDEIMSS director or if it is linked to local criminal organizations.
