Former Floridia Communist Leader and CGIL Unionist Salvatore “Turi” Catinella Dies

Salvatore “Turi” Catinella, a longtime figure of the Italian Communist Party and a senior CGIL unionist, died in Floridia, Sicily after a prolonged illness. He had also served as a public administrator and was widely respected across the political spectrum for his advocacy of workers’ rights and democratic participation.

Local officials and party members expressed condolences. The Democratic Party circle in Floridia posted a tribute noting his steadfast commitment to left‑wing ideals. Mayor Marco Carianni highlighted Catinella’s impact on the community, calling his loss a “void difficult to fill.” CGIL Siracusa secretary Franco Nardi praised his lifelong dedication to the union and social justice.
