Former GAA President Liam O'Neill Dies at 70

Liam O’Neill, former president of the Gaelic Athletic Association, died at age 70 after a recent illness. The Laois native served as the GAA’s 37th Uachtarán from 2012 to 2015 and was credited with modernising the sport, introducing the black card in Gaelic football and overseeing the adoption of Hawkeye technology.

GAA President Jarlath Burns paid tribute, noting O’Neill’s “wit and wisdom” and his pioneering role in governance and inclusion. Camogie president Brian Molloy also expressed condolences, highlighting O’Neill’s lifelong commitment to Gaelic games and Irish language education. He is survived by his wife Áine and children Caoimhe, Ciarán and Clíodhna.
