Former Gambian Vice President Fatoumata Tambajang Registers Democratic Renaissance Party

Former Vice President Fatoumata Jallow Tambajang formally submitted registration documents for the newly formed Democratic Renaissance Party (DRP) to The Gambia's Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on 30 July 2026. The filing initiates the party's bid for official recognition ahead of the national general election scheduled for 5 December 2026.

Tambajang said the DRP has complied with all legal requirements, including gathering over 10,000 signatures, submitting a constitution, logo and flag, and establishing offices in all seven administrative regions. She described the submission as "an historic moment for The Gambia, but only the beginning of our journey toward peace and progress for all."

The IEC has begun a technical review of the application while noting staffing constraints that could affect the speed of its decision. The DRP’s policy platform emphasizes expanding citizens’ rights, economic empowerment, modernising agriculture with digital technology, and attracting financing from the African Continental Free Trade Area, the African Development Bank and other development partners.
