Former Ghana MP Sarah Adwoa Safo injured in Kwabenya shooting

On 21 June 2026 a confrontation erupted at the Kristo Asafo Mission property in Kwabenya, Accra, when former Dome‑Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo drove her vehicle into the entrance gates. The incident left Safo with a gunshot wound to her left ear/neck. Police investigations led to the arrest of six private security guards and later Israel Kwadwo Safo (known as Akofena) together with two others. Searches of their vehicles and residences uncovered multiple firearms, ammunition and loaded magazines.

The church issued a statement rejecting reports of a shooting, calling the allegations “false and misleading” and saying “no such shooting occurred”. A church lawyer, Nana Kofi Kantanka, countered that Safo fired the first shot, prompting security officers to fire warning shots. The family of the late founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, released a statement confirming Safo’s medical treatment and linking the incident to a succession dispute over leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission. Investigations by Ghana Police and intelligence agencies remain ongoing.
