Former Ghanaian MMDCEs petition Finance Ministry for unpaid benefits
A group of 134 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) appointed during the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo has petitioned the Ministry of Finance to release unpaid terminal benefits.
The former officials, who served under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, stated they were directed to remain in office at the start of the second term until new appointees were approved. When the transition concluded in October 2021, 134 of these officials were not renominated and left their posts without receiving their promised benefits.
The petition, signed by former Akatsi South Municipal Chief Executive Leo-Nelson Adzidogah, was addressed to Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson. The group expressed frustration that while their successors received terminal benefits, they were excluded. They argue that since colleagues who were renominated received benefits for the period between January and October 2021, they should be entitled to the same for the time they served.
