Husniah Talenrang detained over corruption and money laundering allegations

Former Gowa Regent Sitti Husniah Talenrang has been detained by the Indonesian National Police's Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipidkor) at the South Sulawesi Regional Police detention center. The 20-day detention, effective from October 26 to November 14, 2026, follows her designation as a suspect in cases involving alleged extortion, gratification related to building permits (PBG), and money laundering.

The legal proceedings follow Husniah's impeachment and removal from office by the Minister of Home Affairs, following a Supreme Court decision. The impeachment was prompted by investigations into several issues, including ethical violations and the alleged misappropriation of a 16 billion IDR school uniform program budget.

Legal counsel for Husniah has announced plans to file for a suspension of detention, citing her medical history of acute gastritis. Investigators from Kortas Tipidkor, the South Sulawesi Regional Police, and the Gowa Police are conducting a joint investigation into the matter.
