Former Greek PM Antonis Samaras Prepares New Party Ahead of Elections

Former prime minister Antonis Samaras announced that he has taken the decisions needed to launch a new political party, urging supporters to await a formal declaration. In a recent speech in Heraklion, Crete, he emphasized that “the decision has been made, we will announce it at the right time” and warned that there is no age limit to serving the nation.

Samaras outlined a broader policy platform, proposing tax reductions for small and medium‑size enterprises and the abolition of advance tax payments to relieve the middle class. He criticised the government’s economic policy as reminiscent of previous administrations and highlighted issues such as demographic decline, regional depopulation, inflation and tax burdens. His team, led by close associate Nikos Tsiousias, has intensified its media response, positioning the upcoming party as an alternative government agenda and hinting at the possibility of early elections to maximise electoral advantage.
