Former Guinean PM Ibrahima Kassory Fofana’s prison term reduced on appeal

Former Guinean Prime Minister Ibrahima Kassory Fofana was convicted by the special appeals chamber of the Court of Repression of Economic and Financial Offences (CRIEF). The July 2, 2026 ruling upheld his guilt for illicit enrichment and money laundering, maintaining a fine of two billion Guinean francs and ordering the State to be repaid three billion francs in damages. His original five‑year prison sentence from February 2025 was reduced to three years and nine months. The court also confirmed the confiscation of assets held in the “Épargne à vie” account of VISTAGUI SA, which will be transferred to the Guinean State and managed by the asset‑recovery agency AGRASC. Fofana’s legal team announced plans to file a cassation appeal before the Supreme Court.
