Israeli hostages recount starvation and abuse in Hamas captivity

Released Israeli hostages have provided testimonies regarding the conditions of their captivity by Hamas in Gaza.

Evyatar David, who was abducted from the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, described enduring extreme starvation during his 738 days in captivity. He alleged that guards forced him to dig a grave while they ate, and stated that he did not eat for three months. David was among the hostages released in October 2025 under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.

Aviva Siegel, who was held for 51 days, testified to the physical and sexual abuse of female hostages. She reported that women were beaten, tortured, and forced to shower naked in front of captors. Siegel, who was released in November 2023, also described being forced to wear tight, ill-fitting clothing during her captivity.
