Former IDAC head Andrea Johnson faces perjury complaint in South Africa
MKP MP David Skosana opened a criminal complaint at the Brooklyn Police Station in Pretoria, accusing former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson of perjury and defeating the ends of justice. The complaint alleges that Johnson gave materially different testimony to Parliament’s ad hoc committee and later under oath to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The complaint follows weeks of scrutiny of Johnson’s evidence concerning IDAC investigations into senior Crime Intelligence officials. At the Madlanga Commission, senior prosecutor Peter Serunye testified that Johnson reprimanded him after he sought the Section 27 referral that formed the basis of arrests of Crime Intelligence officers, suggesting the arrests may have been premature. The commission is examining allegations of corruption, political interference and abuse of power within IDAC.
