Former Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Bachtiar Aly Dies

Former Indonesian ambassador to Egypt, former legislator and NasDem party cadre Bachtiar Aly passed away at Jakarta's Fatmawati Hospital on 26 July 2026 at age 76. His death was confirmed by NasDem Secretary‑General Hermawi Taslim via a short message.

Aly, born on 21 December 1949 in Banda Aceh, served as Indonesia's ambassador to Egypt from 2002 to 2005 and held a seat in the national parliament. He earned a bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Publicist at Universitas Padjadjaran and completed postgraduate studies in Germany, receiving a distinguished award from the University of Münster. Throughout his career he also acted as an expert advisor to the Indonesian police chief.

His passing was noted by party officials and reported in Indonesian media.
