Former Iranian officials call for withdrawal from NPT
A group of former Iranian government officials, including members from the Ahmadinejad and Raisi administrations, has issued a joint statement calling for Iran’s immediate withdrawal from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The signatories urged the Supreme National Security Council, the government, and the Parliament to halt cooperation and initiate the legal process for exiting the treaty. The statement argues that remaining a member no longer provides security or protection for the nation. Instead, they claim the NPT has become a tool for foreign pressure, espionage, and the legitimization of aggression against Iranian rights.
The officials criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stating that despite Iran’s unprecedented transparency and voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol, the agency has failed to protect Iranian facilities. They noted that the agency did not condemn illegal attacks on Iranian nuclear sites and accused the Director General of providing biased reports that facilitated political pressure and military threats against the country.
