Former jockey Paddy Donaghy dies after alleged assault

Former flat jockey Paddy Donaghy has died at age 39 following an alleged one-punch incident in Newtownards, Northern Ireland. The altercation reportedly occurred on September 7 at a house in Stratheden Heights involving his brother, Joseph Donaghy.

Paddy Donaghy died in the hospital on September 13, six days after the incident. Joseph Donaghy, 46, has appeared in Newtownards Magistrates Court charged with causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the assault. His legal representative stated that he is ‘absolutely grief-stricken by what has unravelled.’

During his racing career between 2005 and 2014, Paddy Donaghy won more than 60 races in Britain before later racing in Bahrain. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
