Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El‑Rufai Denied Medical Care by Nigeria's ICPC

Former Kaduna State governor and ex‑minister Nasir El‑Rufai, held in custody by Nigeria’s Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), complained of swollen, red and itchy eyes and asked to see a doctor. His media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, said a court order had been obtained to permit medical treatment, but ICPC officials only examined his eyes and did not arrange a doctor’s visit. A staff member identified as Henry allegedly told family members that El‑Rufai did not want medical care, a claim the family publicly refuted. Adekeye accused the ICPC of violating El‑Rufai’s rights and ignoring the court order, while the commission has not responded to the allegations.

The incident follows earlier accusations that the ICPC restricted El‑Rufai’s access to food and medical care while in detention, raising concerns about due‑process and human‑rights standards in anti‑corruption investigations.
