Siddaramaiah also noted that he began his political career in 1978 as a taluk board member, so 2028 will mark fifty years in politics and that he will be about 82 years old then. The announcement was also posted on the social‑media platform X. Earlier in June 2026 he stepped down as chief minister, with DK Shivakumar taking over.
