Former Lakers Players Accused in Separate Sexual Assault Cases
Former NBA star Kobe Bryant faced a criminal sexual assault charge in 2003 after an alleged incident with a 19‑year‑old woman at a Colorado hotel. The case was dropped in 2004 when the accuser refused to testify, and a civil lawsuit was settled privately without public details. Bryant later issued an apology, continued his basketball career, and his death in 2020 revived public interest in the case.
Former Lakers guard Byron Scott is accused of sexually abusing a 15‑year‑old student during a 1987 school event at Campbell Hall School in Studio City. The plaintiff’s lawsuit alleges sexual battery and false imprisonment. In August 2023 a portion of the case against the school was tentatively settled, with the terms sealed and pending judicial approval. Scott, now 65, denies wrongdoing, claiming the girl was part of a production crew, not a student.
Both cases involve former Los Angeles Lakers players and have resurfaced years after the alleged incidents, prompting renewed legal scrutiny and public discussion of past misconduct.
