Former Malaysian PM Ismail Sabri's corruption trial postponed to Aug 27

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Malaysia's former prime minister, faces charges under the Anti‑Corruption Commission Act. Prosecutors confirmed that a case will be heard at the National Heart Institute (Institut Jantung Negara, IJN), which will serve as a session court for the proceedings.

The trial was delayed until 27 August after Ismail Sabri was admitted to IJN for a cardiac procedure to treat an arrhythmia. His defence team cited the health issue and requested a short adjournment, which the judge, Suzana Hussin, granted. Earlier investigations by the Malaysian Anti‑Corruption Commission resulted in the seizure of RM170 million in cash and foreign currency, as well as 16 kg of pure gold valued at about RM7 million.

The postponement allows the court to read the charges and record a statement from the defendant once his medical treatment is completed.
