Former Maluku Public Works Head detained in corruption case

The Maluku High Prosecutor's Office has named and detained the former Head of the Maluku Provincial Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR), identified by the initials MM, as a suspect in a corruption case. The case involves the development of clean water infrastructure on Haruku Island during the 2020 fiscal year.

Investigators allege that in his capacity as the Budget User for the 2020-2021 period, MM failed to verify the material truth of payment documents before signing payment orders. He is also accused of directing the Commitment Making Officer to process fund disbursements that did not align with the actual physical progress of the work. Furthermore, the suspect allegedly failed to properly plan procurement or implement measures to prevent budget leaks.

An audit by the BPKP Maluku Representative Office estimated the state financial losses at approximately Rp3.83 billion. MM has been detained at the Ambon Class IIA Detention Center following the formal designation of his suspect status on August 31, 2026.
