Former Manitoba MP Inky Mark charged after 439 firearms, antique cannon seized
On July 13, 2026, Manitoba RCMP seized a large stockpile of weapons from the home of 78‑year‑old Inky Mark, who served as the federal MP for Dauphin from 1997 to 2010. The seizure included 439 firearms, an antique cannon and about C$300,000 in cash.
Mark was charged with a dozen offences, among them firearms trafficking, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, possession of property obtained by crime and unsafe storage. Police have identified at least three guns that were illegally trafficked and one with an altered serial number. The investigation, launched in March after a related U.S. firearms charge, will take weeks to process the evidence. RCMP Cpl. Barry Kirby said, "At this time we don’t know his motives … we know he was a firearms collector," and RCMP officials warned that illegal weapons pose a serious threat to public safety.
