Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu Extradited from US, Returns to Ghana to Begin 10‑Year Sentence

Former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana's Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe‑Attionu, arrived at Accra's Kotoka International Airport on 9 June 2026 after being extradited from the United States. She had been convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court in 2024 on more than 70 charges, including stealing, money‑laundering and causing financial loss to the state, with losses estimated at nearly GH¢90 million (about US$6 million). The court sentenced her to ten years' imprisonment.

Ghana formally requested her extradition in 2025, and a U.S. District Court in Nevada approved the request, marking the first known extradition from the United States to Ghana since 2009. Upon arrival, security officials placed her in custody and began standard debriefing and medical assessments before her transfer to the Ghana Prisons Service.

Former Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah‑Yeboah hailed the cooperation, saying, "Let me first and foremost extend congratulations to the U.S. authorities for responding to our request and taking the necessary steps to bring Sedinam Tamakloe‑Attionu down to Ghana." The extradition is viewed as a milestone in Ghana’s anti‑corruption efforts and illustrates strengthened legal collaboration between the two countries.
