Former MediUSA Chairman Nguyen Năng Mạnh faces up to 18 years for counterfeit supplement scandal

On July 28 the People’s Court of Hanoi continued the first‑instance trial of 14 defendants accused of producing and selling hundreds of tonnes of counterfeit health‑supplement products linked to MediUSA, MediPhar and related firms.

Prosecutors sought a combined sentence of 15‑18 years for former MediUSA chairman Nguyễn Năng Mạnh – 10‑11 years for making and distributing fake food and supplements, 3‑4 years for serious accounting violations and 2‑3 years for bribery. Co‑defendants Đỗ Mạnh Hoàng and Khúc Minh Vũ were recommended 11‑13 years and 9‑11 years respectively for similar offenses. Additional executives received terms ranging from 30 months to three‑year suspended sentences.

The court will deliver its verdict after hearing arguments from the defence.
