Former Minister Mitov criticizes government response to Black Sea attacks
Former Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov has criticized the government's cautious approach regarding recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea. The attacks, which involved drones, have resulted in over 20 casualties or missing persons.
Mitov questioned the official reluctance to explicitly name Russia as the responsible party for the instability and aggression in the region. He specifically criticized the Defense Minister's phrasing regarding the origin of the drones and noted that while the logic pointed toward Russia as early as October 6, the government only acknowledged this possibility following a second wave of attacks on October 13.
Mitov emphasized that the attacks occurred within Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone and argued that failing to hold the aggressor accountable prevents them from facing consequences. He noted that the European Council has already identified Russia as the source of expansionism and instability in the area.
