Former MPR Secretary Ma'ruf Cahyono detained by Indonesia's KPK

Indonesia’s anti‑corruption commission (KPK) has intensified its probe into former MPR secretary‑general Ma'ruf Cahyono for alleged gratuities tied to procurement of goods and services within the MPR secretariat. After the case was first announced in June 2025, KPK repeatedly examined Cahyono in June 2026, during which investigators said he demanded a fee of roughly 10 % of each project’s value. The commission alleges that the total illicit payments range from about Rp 17 billion to as much as Rp 30 billion, involving cash, trading accounts and nominee bank accounts.

On 9 July 2026 Cahyono was taken into custody at the Red‑White Building detention centre in Jakarta and ordered to remain detained for an initial 20‑day period. He told reporters he had provided all information requested by investigators. KPK said the case remains under investigation, with further witnesses and private firms being examined to clarify the alleged scheme.

The detention marks a significant development in a high‑profile corruption inquiry involving a former senior legislative official and large procurement contracts.
