Former NAFCO CEO trial adjourned over seized property application

The High Court in Accra has adjourned the criminal trial of Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni. The couple faces charges related to the misuse of state funds.

The adjournment follows an application by defense counsel, led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, requesting the release of seized personal properties, including mobile phones. The defense argues that these devices contain information essential to the preparation of their defense and that withholding them infringes upon the constitutional right to adequate facilities for legal preparation.

Prosecution, represented by Principal State Attorney Esi Dentaa Yankah, opposed the application and the resulting delay. The prosecution argued that the trial should have proceeded as scheduled with the examination-in-chief of the first witness, noting that all court proceedings are recorded. The court has set October 7, 2026, to determine the application regarding the release of the seized items.
