Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Escapes Office and Home Fires

On August 7 a fire broke out at former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's private office in Upper Hill. The Nairobi County Fire and Emergency Response Team, led by Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement Geoffrey Mosiria, was dispatched immediately and contained the blaze before it spread. Sonko was unharmed and thanked the responders on social media, describing the incident as divine protection.

The next morning a second fire erupted at Sonko's residence. County firefighters again arrived quickly, limiting damage and reporting no injuries. Authorities said the cause was still under investigation, with an electrical fault suspected. Sonko repeated his gratitude to the emergency team, echoing his earlier remarks. Both incidents underscored the fire services that were expanded during his tenure as governor.
