Former Nigerian Governor Nasir el‑Rufai Allegedly Targeted in AI‑Doctored Detention Recordings

Former APC deputy national publicity secretary Timi Frank claimed that security agencies have bugged the detention cell of former Kaduna State governor Nasir el‑Rufai. He said the ICPC and DSS recorded extensive audio and visual material of el‑Rufai’s conversations with his lawyers and family.

Frank alleged that operatives plan to use artificial‑intelligence technology to alter selected recordings and leak the doctored material to the press, aiming to tarnish el‑Rufai’s reputation and justify his continued custody. He described the scheme as part of a broader agenda to “destroy el‑Rufai, tarnish his reputation and keep him in custody.”

He quoted, “Nasir el‑Rufai has been subjected to intense surveillance even in detention,” and added, “The plan is to use AI to distort some of these recordings to frame el‑Rufai.”
