Marius Borg Høiby appeal trial scheduled for February 2027

The Borgarting Court of Appeal has scheduled the appeal trial for Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Norwegian Queen Mette-Marit, to begin on February 9, 2027. The proceedings are expected to last approximately 16 court days, with a tentative conclusion date of March 5, 2027.

Høiby was previously sentenced in June to four years in prison for several offenses, including two counts of rape and domestic abuse against a former partner. The upcoming retrial will specifically address the guilt and sentencing regarding the rape and abuse convictions, as well as potential compensation payments to victims. While Høiby has admitted to some lesser charges, such as violence and restraining order violations, he is appealing the more serious convictions.

Prosecutors have also filed a counter-appeal seeking a more severe sentence than the original four-year term. Høiby is currently in pretrial detention, serving his time under electronic monitoring at the Skaugum royal estate. The case continues to draw significant public and media attention in Norway due to his connection to the royal family.
