Former Olympian David Hearn Indicted Over Reflecting Pool Vandalism

A federal grand jury in Washington indicted 67‑year‑old former three‑time U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn on July 2 for alleged vandalism of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Prosecutors allege he caused more than $1,000 in damage by forcibly pulling at a detached blue paint coating during a bike ride, actions described by the public prosecutor as “aggressive.” Hearn says he was a “concerned citizen” with a background in materials science who touched the coating out of curiosity.
