Former OSD Sumant surrenders in extortion case as father attempts suicide

Sumant, a former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to former Telangana Minister Konda Surekha, has surrendered to police following an assault and extortion case. The case was initiated by real estate businessman Gongidi Harikrishna, who alleged that Sumant and three others assaulted him with iron rods and sticks in Jubilee Hills, resulting in a fractured hand.

Following a Nampally court order granting conditional anticipatory bail, Sumant surrendered to investigators. The court imposed conditions including the submission of personal bonds, a restriction on leaving the country, and a prohibition against influencing witnesses or tampering with evidence.

In a separate development, Subrahmanyam, the father of Sumant, is reported to be in critical condition after an attempted suicide in Warangal. He allegedly consumed approximately 40 sleeping pills and was rushed to Medcover Hospital for medical supervision. The motive behind the attempt remains unknown, and authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances.
