Former police officer sentenced to death for student murder

The Malang District Court has sentenced former Probolinggo Police officer Agus Muhammad Saleman to death for the premeditated murder of Faradilla Amalia Najwa, a student from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).

The death sentence is more severe than the life imprisonment requested by prosecutors. A co-defendant, Suyitno, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Saleman had previously been dishonorably discharged from the Indonesian National Police (Polri) following the incident.

Probolinggo Police Chief AKBP Asmida Rizki Siregar stated that the police respect the court's decision and will leave the legal process to the appropriate mechanisms and the rights of the involved parties.
