Former Police Scotland sergeant jailed for raping two women
Campbell Petrie, a former Police Scotland sergeant, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following his conviction for a series of sexual offences against two women. The sentence, handed down at the High Court in Glasgow by Judge Alastair Watson, includes 12 years in custody and three years of extended supervision.
Between 2006 and 2022, Petrie committed multiple acts of physical and sexual abuse, including rape and indecent assault. One victim was assaulted in a leisure centre changing room in Lanarkshire, while another was targeted after Petrie met her while on duty in Glasgow. Judge Watson noted that the offences caused ‘deep and enduring psychological harm’ to the victims.
It was revealed during proceedings that Petrie had been arrested in 2009 regarding allegations of threatening behaviour against one victim, but the case was dropped, and he was subsequently promoted to sergeant. Petrie was suspended from duty in December 2023 and retired from the force in 2025, shortly before his trial. While his defense argued for leniency based on his previous service and character, the judge emphasized the gravity of his sustained criminal conduct.
