Former Polish Prime Ministers summoned in PFN investigation
Former Polish Prime Ministers Beata Szydło and Mateusz Morawiecki have been summoned to appear before prosecutors as witnesses in an ongoing investigation regarding the Polish National Foundation (PFN). The probe centers on the ‘Sprawiedliwe Sądy’ (Fair Courts) campaign, a 2017 initiative involving nationwide billboard placements intended to influence judicial reforms.
The Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów confirmed that the investigation is active and that investigators are conducting planned procedural activities, including questioning individuals with significant information. While the exact timing and capacity of the former premiers' testimony have not been specified, the investigation continues to progress.
In related developments, authorities have secured assets totaling over 4.6 million PLN from two suspects, Anna P. and Piotr M., to compensate for damages caused to the PFN. This includes real estate, bank accounts, and financial instruments. Previously, assets exceeding 8.4 million PLN were secured from two other suspects, Cezary J. and Maciej Ś., nearly covering the total damage to the foundation. The suspects involved in the campaign face potential prison sentences of up to 10 years.
