Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Faces Multiple Investigations, Including Dior Bag Probe
South Korean police forwarded former President Yoon Suk-yeol to the Seoul Central Prosecutors’ Office on suspicion of violating the Act on the Prevention of Abuse of Public Power. The allegation stems from Yoon’s knowledge that his wife, Kim Keon-hee, received a Dior handbag worth about 5.4 million won from pastor Choi Jae‑young in June 2022 and failed to report the gift, which police say is linked to his official duties. While prosecutors did not apply bribery charges due to insufficient evidence of a joint scheme, Kim remains on trial for related corruption offenses, with prosecutors seeking a 7½‑year prison term.
In a separate matter, the special investigation unit (특수본) is coordinating a probe into Yoon for a possible violation of election law after a 2021 Facebook post that targeted Lee Jae‑myung in connection with the Daejang‑dong scandal. Yoon’s camp has indicated willingness to respond in writing rather than in person.
Both investigations reflect ongoing legal scrutiny of Yoon’s actions while in office and after his presidency.
