Former Puerto Aventuras mayor linked to aggravated extortion process

A judge has linked former Puerto Aventuras mayor Gilberto Gómez, along with Jorge “N” and Karla Paola “N”, to a criminal process for aggravated extortion. The three individuals have been ordered into preventive detention for a period of two years.

The investigation by the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office (FGE) details a series of extortion attempts against a merchant in the Puerto Maya neighborhood between January and May 2026. According to the case file, Karla Paola “N” allegedly coerced the victim into paying for documentation that was actually free, claiming the payment would guarantee protection during Gilberto Gómez’s term as mayor.

Further incidents involved Jorge “N” allegedly acting under the former mayor's instructions to threaten the merchant with physical violence and the removal of her belongings if she did not comply with periodic weekly payments. The court determined there was sufficient evidence to proceed with the charges of aggravated extortion.
