Former Sheffield church leader and wife charged with rape

Stephen Timmis, 68, and Janet Timmis, 61, have each been charged with eight counts of rape against one person. The alleged offences are reported to have occurred between May and September 2008, during the period when Stephen Timmis served as a leader at the Crowded House Church in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police issued an appeal for information, stating they believe former members of the church may possess details relevant to the investigation. The police have offered support to anyone coming forward with concerns or information. The couple, both residents of Psalter Lane, have been released on bail and are scheduled to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on December 1, 2026.
