Former Slovenian MP Franc Trcek Leaves Social Democrats Party
Franc Trcek, a former member of the Slovenian Parliament who was elected twice on the Levica list and joined the Social Democrats (SD) in 2020, announced his resignation from the party. He will not run in the upcoming elections. In his statement he said the “divergences in the understanding of political responsibility and future direction are too great” and that “there is less space for deep, substantive debate in the political arena”.
Trcek will remain employed at the Ministry of Local Self‑Government, Cohesion and Regional Development, where he was appointed during the term of Minister Aleksander Jevsek (SD). He said he will stay a “critical observer of politics and social developments”. The party thanked him for his work. Recent months have also seen other former SD members, such as former minister Anja Kopač, former MEP Mojca Kleva and former MP Jan Škober, leave the party.
