Former São Paulo FC president Julio Casares denies theft allegations
Julio Casares, who led São Paulo Football Club from 2021 to 2025, has publicly refuted accusations that he diverted club funds. In an interview, he categorically stated, “I am not a thief,” and described the allegations of R$11 million in withdrawals and a R$1.5 million deposit as “absurd.”
Casares acknowledged using the club’s corporate credit card for personal expenses totaling a little over R$400 000 during his tenure, but said the amounts were fully reimbursed to the club. He also denied any involvement in the so‑called “ticket lounge” case involving alleged irregular ticket sales.
The former president attributed the controversy to internal political maneuvering that led to his removal, claiming rivals exploited the situation to undermine his administration. Investigations into the financial allegations remain ongoing.
