Former Tabung Haji CEO remanded over RM190 million investment probe

A former Chief Executive Officer of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has been remanded for seven days to assist in an investigation regarding the suspected misappropriation of approximately RM190 million in investment funds and shares. The remand order was issued by Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM).

The investigation stems from findings in a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report concerning Tabung Haji's management and governance between 2014 and 2020. The RCI report, which was made public in late July, highlighted various management weaknesses. In response, the SPRM established a special task force to examine the report for elements of corruption, misappropriation, document forgery, abuse of power, and money laundering.

Previously, seven individuals were detained in connection with the RCI findings, including a CEO, a company director, a former director, and four former senior management members of TH. While some suspects were previously remanded or released on bail due to health issues, this latest remand targets the former CEO, a man in his 60s, under Section 23 of the SPRM Act 2009.
