Former teachers sentenced for sexual exploitation of students
Two former teachers in the United States have received prison sentences for the sexual exploitation of students.
In Washington, 26-year-old Andrea Lee Campos-Hernandez was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison. She pleaded guilty to producing child pornography related to the abuse of a 13-year-old boy between February 2021 and July 2022. A federal judge also imposed a 10-year term of supervised release and $15,000 in special assessments.
In Florida, 37-year-old Heather Marie Mashburn-Smith was sentenced to seven years in prison following her guilty plea to sexual battery involving a 17-year-old student. The incidents occurred on the campus of Port Charlotte High School. In addition to her prison term, Mashburn-Smith was designated a sexual predator and ordered to serve 15 years of sexual offender probation. She is also prohibited from contacting the victim or their family and must surrender her teaching certificate.
