Former Texas Rep. Kay Granger, pioneering Republican woman, dies at 83
Kay Granger, the longtime Republican congresswoman from Texas, died at age 83 on August 2, 2026. She served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 until her retirement in January 2025, representing Texas’s 12th district. Granger was the first woman elected mayor of Fort Worth (1991‑1995), the first Republican woman from Texas elected to Congress, and the first Republican woman to chair the powerful House Appropriations Committee (2023‑2024).
