Former Turkish prison guard Kamil Dayan dies after traffic accident

Kamil Dayan, a 37‑year‑old former prison guard who was dismissed by an emergency decree (KHK) following the 2016 coup attempt and later convicted for alleged links to the Gülen movement, died on Tuesday after a traffic accident on the Niğde‑Ankara highway. His car rolled over, leaving Dayan with severe injuries that led to his death at Niğde State Hospital; his wife and child, who were also in the vehicle, suffered only minor injuries. Prior to his dismissal, Dayan served as an execution‑guard (infaz koruma memuru) at Sincan Prison in Ankara. He had been sentenced to more than six years in prison for membership in a terrorist organization based on alleged ByLock usage, and his appeal was pending at the Supreme Court of Appeals at the time of his death. The case reflects the broader post‑coup purge of civil servants and security personnel in Turkey.
