Mexico's Leonel Godoy summoned as witness in Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo murder case
Michoacán State Prosecutors have issued a summons for Leonel Godoy Rangel, a federal deputy and former state governor, to appear voluntarily as a witness on May 16 at the Specialized Homicide Prosecutor’s Office. The testimony relates to the homicide investigation of former Uruapan mayor Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, whose murder remains under investigation.
The summons also named former Uruapan mayor Ignacio Campos Equihua, who appeared before the prosecutor and denied any involvement in the crime. Both Godoy and Campos are accused by Manzo’s widow, Grecia Quiroz, of having ties to the perpetrators, alongside Senator Raúl Morón. Godoy publicly acknowledged friendship with Ramón Álvarez Ayala, identified as a key figure in the alleged criminal network. The legal notice cites relevant articles of the Mexican Constitution and the National Code of Criminal Procedures, mandating compliance with the summons.
