Former Valencian President Carlos Mazón Granted Right to Join DANA Management Investigation
The Second Section of the Audiencia Provincial de Valencia has approved former Generalitat Valenciana president Carlos Mazón’s request to be formally represented (personación) in the criminal investigation into the handling of the DANA storm by the Tribunal de Instancia de Catarroja. The ruling overturns an earlier decision that had denied his participation and cites Mazón’s status as an accredited deputy, granting him access to the case files and the ability to defend his interests.
Mazón’s defence team said it will scrutinise the investigative actions undertaken so far and may challenge any measures that exceed the procedural limits or infringe fundamental rights. The defence emphasized that the court’s decision does not imply any criminal liability; a prior judgment by the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community had already dismissed criminal responsibility for the former president. The investigation continues, with additional judicial steps still pending.
