Former West Bengal minister Giyasuddin Molla files police complaint against TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee

Former West Bengal minister and three‑time Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Giyasuddin Molla lodged a formal police complaint at a Magrahat (West) police station in South 24 Parganas. He accused TMC party secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee and former sub‑divisional police officer Mithun Kumar De of assault, intimidation and unlawful punitive actions against local party workers.

Molla, who previously held the state minority‑affairs and madarsa‑education portfolio, said he feared retaliation from party cadres and remained silent until the new Suvendu Adhikari‑led administration took office. He alleged De beat a party activist inside the police station and used a baton to threaten him, claiming Banerjee directed these actions. The complaint also references an earlier FIR against Banerjee for allegedly inciting violence before the recent West Bengal assembly elections and threatening Home Minister Amit Shah. The Election Commission had earlier barred De from election‑related duties.

Molla was denied a TMC ticket for the 2026 assembly polls, which he linked to internal party disputes. The filing marks a rare public grievance against senior TMC figures within the state’s political landscape.
