Formosa, Argentina urges stronger flu and COVID prevention as winter hits

Health officials in Formosa, Argentina, warned that flu and coronavirus vaccinations are crucial during the winter season. Héctor Varas, head of the Pneumology Service at the Hospital de Alta Complejidad, explained that seasonal viruses such as influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and adenovirus can lead to severe complications, including pneumonia.

Varas noted that each winter sees a rise in cases and hospital admissions for severe respiratory infections. He emphasized extra caution for immunocompromised people, adults over 65 and anyone who is not vaccinated. Warning signs include shortness of breath, high fever, low oxygen levels and difficulty breathing, and he urged anyone experiencing these symptoms to seek medical attention promptly.
