Formosa child escapes state shelter amid abuse allegations

An 11-year-old boy named Ian escaped from the Remedios de Escalada shelter in Formosa, Argentina, after allegedly suffering abuse while under state guardianship. Following his escape, the child sought help from a neighbor and successfully contacted his mother.

Former legislator Gabriela Neme, who is supporting the family, has denounced the conditions at the facility. Neme claims the child has been subjected to physical aggression, punishment involving cold water, and overmedication. She stated that these warnings had been presented to authorities since June.

In response to the escape, a judge from the Second Judicial District, Dr. Nadia Soledad Caballero, issued a formal judicial order. The ruling mandates the immediate return of the minor to the Remedios de Escalada shelter, threatening legal consequences if the mother, Elena Marina Sandoval, fails to comply with the reintegration order.
