Formosa demands unpaid social security funds from Argentina

The Minister of Economy, Finance, and Treasury of Formosa, Jorge Ibáñez, has escalated legal demands against the Argentine national government regarding unpaid transfers to the province's Social Security Fund. Ibáñez confirmed that a preliminary hearing was held before the Supreme Court, which has been adjourned until November 18.

The province claims it has not received any funds for social security purposes since December 2023. Ibáñez stated that Formosa is among 13 provinces experiencing similar issues where the National Social Security Administration (Anses) is allegedly failing to remit funds as required by law.

In addition to social security arrears, the provincial government is seeking the release of funds collected through fuel taxes, which are legally earmarked for water infrastructure and road financing. While the province is currently managing its own resources to cover these gaps, officials maintain that the national government must fulfill its legal obligations.
