Formosa forest fires impact over 9,000 hectares
Emergency services in Formosa, Argentina, are working to contain a large-scale forest fire affecting various sectors of the jurisdiction. While initial estimates suggested 1,000 hectares were impacted, updated satellite data indicates approximately 96.55 square kilometers of hot zones, equivalent to more than 9,000 hectares of affected surface.
Coordinated efforts involving the Pozo de Maza Substation and fire departments from Ingeniero Juárez, Las Lomitas, and Palmar Largo are focused on containment and monitoring to prevent the fire from reaching populated areas. The primary communities affected include Madrugada, Rinconada, Pozo Ramón, and Isla García.
The fire has damaged two precarious dwellings in the La Madrugada community. Additionally, 30 people, including minors, were assisted due to smoke inhalation or were evacuated as a preventive measure; no injuries have been reported. Firefighters remain on high alert due to forecasts of high temperatures and strong wind gusts that could facilitate further spread.
